Desi Aunty in health shop

Excess hair is unsightly and a turn off, whether on a man or a woman. However, shaving, applying hair removing cream and even waxing will never be a permanent solution, and depending on your hair's growth rate, you will be Mr./Ms. Grizzly all over again. If you are sick and tired of spending time in the bathroom or at a waxing salon, then laser hair removal is the solution for you.
For over 20 years, special lasers have been cleaning up the mess we call excess hair. At first, many people were skeptic of whether to venture with this treatment or not, especially with the media showing off lasers to be powerful tools of mass destruction. However, the method now is generally accepted by dermatologists as well as the public, especially with reports proving these lasers to be lethal to hair follicles and nothing else.
Hair removal lasers function using a method called selective photothermolysis (SPTL), which instructs the laser to heat dark targets, i.e. the hair. Due to this, older lasers could hardly be effective on tanned or dark-skinned individuals. However, new lasers have been developed and now can be used to provide these people the same results as those with fair to mild-toned skins.
Some of the popular lasers used at spas and cosmetic clinics include the Alexandrite, the Pulse Diode array and Nd:YAG laser. The first laser is most effective, however it is safe on light skin only. As for the Pulse diode laser, light and medium skin types will benefit most from it. Finally, the Nd:YAG laser is best for darker skin and is able to treat all six skin colors, however, research is still going on regarding whether this laser can produce a permanent effect or not.
How this device zaps hair away is quite simple. Once directed at the body, the laser detects the darkest substance on it. It then targets the hair's melanin, which is the substance responsible for the color of hair and the skin, and heats it. Due to the dark color of the hair, the heat is quickly absorbed and the follicle becomes weak, thus preventing hair from growing again in the future.
As simple as that sounds, it really isn't. There are so many factors involved in ridding yourself from body hair. One of the main factors is the stage of growth the hair is in. Hair goes through a three-stage growth cycle: Anagen, Catagen and Telogen. During the first phase, the hair is growing, whereas in the second phase, it is preparing for the last phase and the deeper portions of the hair follicles start to collapse. Finally, in the third stage, the hair falls.
As melanin is mainly the targeted substance, its abundance is necessary. During the Anagen phase, plenty of melanin is available in the hair follicle, thus the laser can work with ease. However, there is no guarantee that all the hair on your body will be going through that. Therefore, you will need to have more than one treatment session before you can receive the best results. Usually sessions can go up to 12 which are 4-6 weeks apart, however, it all depends on how well you react to the sessions.
Laser technology can help you get rid of 90% of your body hair anywhere you want, so why not give it a go and see what Science's latest technology for hair removal can do for you?
